If you don't want the answers to every last collectible and just want to know where to look, there are several NPCs that will point you in the right direction. If you get close, they may begin to sparkle - tap on them to reveal a secret! Look for spots in the world where plants or flowers cluster. Search every screen thoroughly or check back later with new abilities to see what you've overlooked. If it feels like you've found a place devoid of secrets, you probably just can't see it yet. Almost every building has walls you can climb, which can lead to rooftops with treasure - and many cliffs can also have sections to climb. When you get the ability to swim up painted walls, you'll start looking at certain buildings and cliffs in a new light. These lines can lead to new screens and are often obscured, so look closely. Another type of secret path you can find are often foreshadowed by thin lines on the ground that you can't walk through - but you can swim through once the ground is painted. This can include holes in buildings, below bridges, up cliffs and at the mouths of waterfalls - explore them all to find secrets! Be on the lookout for thick black lines that denote small hole openings you can swim into once the area is painted. When swimming up walls, you can press jump to move faster, allowing for faster traversal!
Having all of your previously explored areas fully painted - at least on the ground - can help the speed of backtracking immensely. It may seem obvious, but once you get the ability to swim through paint like an Inkling from Splatoon, you'll never want to walk again. Inside, you can decorate the interior with even more decor, and moving the tent to a new location will still keep the same items inside! If you aquire the Tent decor, you can enter the tent after placing it on the map. However, you'll never find gifts in clusters. Sometimes you can find Litter in small clusters, so be sure to pick up every last one. Missing a Brush Style in your bottom left corner? Check the bottom left part of the world! The missing spots actually correspond to a rough estimate of where they can be found on the world map. As you locate more styles, you may notice the grid fill in a very strange way. Your Brush Styles have a unique layout in the menu screen. Placing decor can often cause other NPCs to show up and make use of them! You can place decor as you obtain them almost anywhere in the game, though only a few items have multiple quantities.
Sometimes certain characters may show up in new areas with new dialogue and rewards! Talk to Everyone! As you meet the different residents of Picnic, some may offer unique services, ask for favors, or reveal secrets in the world you may not know about.Since you can't reach every Gift or Litter as soon as you spot it, you can always use a particular color to circle or point to the collectible out of reach, so you can easily spot it again when backtracking later in the game. Try to remember these spots and return to them when you gain the ability to swim, travel up walls, and so forth. Like any adventure game full of collectibles and traversal abilities, you can expect to find many hidden secrets just out of reach until you have the right upgrades. If you try the auto fill tool when using different brush styles, you may find the patterns will expand in different ways! This means you can quickly fill in a floor, wall, building - and eventually water without having to splash your paint back and forth!
By holding down the brush in a certain spot, your paint will slowly spread out until it reaches everything that isn't separated by bold lines. Filling in every last screen of the world can take a lot of time, so take a load off by auto-filling areas with your brush. Coloring in screens can also help you keep track of the places you've been, and where you have yet to explore. Not only will the residents of Picnic appreciate this, they may even show up in random painted areas to remark on your work. Chicory is about returning color to the world after all, and it's worth your time to stop and appreciate the world as you color in each screen with the palette of colors each area has.
